Me waiting for the off!!! |
Today was a race day however we woke up at 6:55am for morning mobility at 7am as normal. We left camp around 8:45am and arrived at the race track around 9:30am, after signing in we took it upon ourselves to do a few warm up laps. The weather was not looking promising at this point but there was a chance the rain might hold off. The younger races had just started so we watched and cheered them along looking at the slippery points in the track. after the younger races had been completed it was our turn, I was number 1 so I had to set off first with a 15 second gap between each person . Just as we all lined up the heavens opened and it chucked it down, the race track was like a swimming pool with us having to ski through puddles that splashed water up to chest height, but we cracked on anyway all the lads did really well and only Carl fell over (twice) and had a nice bump on his forehead and nettle stings on his arm to show his efforts, he picked himself up and completed in a good time. after the race we split up into two teams (of four) for the relay, the first person was Carl he had to run about 15 meters to put on his skis (Le Mans style start) and complete one lap, this was a mass start so all the teams went together. Carl got to his skis and flapped and was the last person to get them on and leave for his lap, fair play to him he made it up with a fast lap and we came 2nd overall in the relay not to bad but it wasn’t first! After the races where completed there was a short presentation where the medals were given out, we then set off back to camp to get ready for tomorrow's race.
