SAC Luke Tyler - Training Diary 23 October 2011

Regiment & Air Command teams with haul of trophies
Today was the Wessex sprint races which was also the last race of the GBR race series which consisted of a 9k mass start and a 4x3k relay race. We arrived at Castle Combe race circuit about 0900 after driving over from an Army Air Corps camp we stayed at overnight near Salisbury. After registering for the race we headed straight out onto 3km race circuit which is quite flat and exposed to the wind to acquaint ourselves with the course conditions and to warm up for the race which began about 10:50. After a brief of the race and receiving our race skis and timing chip we wore on our left ankle we headed over to line up for the start. After a count down and on the firing of a pistol we all set off double polling for about 50 meters and in to the race, I decided to set the pace for around 4k which was a bad idea now in hindsight as everyone just tucked in behind me out of the wind. We all did well although one of Danny’s wheels split and he had to drop out near the finish. After the morning race was lunch and we decided on a team for the relay it was myself leading off followed by Carl, Danny and the coach on the last leg, we won the relay by quite a healthy margin. Matt did not have a place in our relay team but raced for another team and came in third. After all the races was the prize giving for both today’s races and for the overall GBR race series which coach was runner-up of in the male category. We then set off back to RAF Honington for the night before we flew back to Germany on Monday and start the last summer training camp.
Full race results will be online ASAP
