We had our finale 3000m running test today down at the track
we have been working up to for the past 8 weeks. We jogged down to the track as
usual the boss was joining us again so he cycled down with us to do a bit of
time keeping for us. When we got to the track we did a twenty minute warm up
then lined up ready for the test it was 7 and a half laps of the track today.
We set off with Carl and Grant pulling away and coach and me staying together
for most of the run. It was a pretty hot morning so it was hard going. The times
were as following
Coach & Mat feeling the heat |
New time previous time
Carl 9.50 10.17
Grant 10.33 11.00
Mat 11.36 11.34
Coach 11.34 11.22
Carl finishing impressively after lapping Coach & Mat |
As you can see by the times Carl and Grant both beat their
previous times handsomely. Unfortunately coach and I didn’t we blame it on the
heat!
For our afternoon
session we were down the range doing skate combi’s. We started off with some
one shot drills alternating between prone and stand prone onto paper stand onto
metal. We did twenty of these then went onto to full mag shoots doing big loops
of the track. Coach set us two different loops one doing the double bumps at
one side of the track and the other doing the big range hill at the other.
Again we were doing prone then stand. By the third or fourth lap a combination
of the morning run and the heat was taking its toll and we were all heavy
legged so went at a slower pace around. We did this for 6 loops all in all, after finishing we checked our paper targets for
the prone shoots to which we had all hit at least 80%.
Just as we were leaving Coach spotted that Raphael Poirée (Biathlon
legend) arriving and setting up the range for the Belarusian team he now
trains.
