On arrival
at Aviemore, (Scotland) we acquainted ourselves with the cosy Feshie Bridge
Lodge, thanking the RAF lol.
Waking up to 'Feeling fine – Ultrabeat' at 0655 was a
great start to an abnormally, sunny,
Saturday morning. At 0700 we were out of the door and getting back into morning
mobility, while the Coach concurrently cooked some team porridge :)The race at Huntly Nordic Centre was very eventful; everyone completed the 10 laps (7.1km), apart from the Boss who DNF (Did Not Finish) due to injury, ouchie lol. Grant fell over grazing his shoulder (hilarious!). However, karma did catch up with me on the 4 x 710m relay! For some reason I decided to casually slide across the floor shaving my left hip and elbow, double ouchie lol.
Keep posted for all the results!!!
On Sunday we had the privilege of a lie-in...Well until 0755 anyway :D The weather wasn't as good as yesterday's. Having said that, it didn't rain, our morale was high and we were all eager to smash today's race, the Cairngorm Classic Climb.
The mentally and physically demanding Classic technique race was 5.58km (with an ascent of 335m) up Cairngorm, with the exception of 'Grunt' (Grant's nickname, he hates it! Lol), who accomplished the 3.5km Novice Race (with an ascent of 220m). The racing order was; The Coach, Myself, Followed by Frank Kelly, with 15 second intervals. This was going to be an extremely exciting and competitive race for the title of RAF Roller Ski Champion 2012.
Well at least the Coach got off to an amazing start!...Pause...Naaaaaat!!! Snapping his pole within the first 15M - demoralising! I felt like stopping for him, but there was no way I was letting Frank catch me! Towards the top of the mountain the wind was horrendous, making poling a great hardship.
The results will be up soon, stay tuned! :D
