Thursday morning we headed down to sport's centre in Elgin
to do a swimming circuit. For it we performed two lengths using legs only,
while using a float for our arms followed by two lengths using arms only. We performed the circuit at level 1 for an
hour so although being level 1 the swim was still a good workout and stretch
off for our muscles. Unlike last week no one decided to chat us up thankfully!
For our Thursday afternoon session we headed over to Huntly and joined in with
the ski club there. We started by with a 10 minute run as a warm up and then
moved into the first part of the session. We worked on plyometrics which is
working on strengthening and the explosive power of the muscle. For this we
performed different explosive jumping exercises including jumping facing the
side and straight on. We incorporated our arms to mimic holding poles to give
us a better bound and go through the motions of using poles. We then moved onto classic ski's and
performed hill sprints concentrating on bounding. To start we practiced on a
small hill then moved onto the dry ski slope which proved harder.
On Saturday we headed
to Aviemore for the first time since being here to train with the biathlon club
there. We got straight into the session by first of all zeroing our rifles.
Being new rifles we expected it to take quite some time but we were shooting
well. Once complete we moved onto some running races with shooting in between.
All of us smashed the shooting which is good as we have not shot in some time.
Getting back on rifles and performing some running combi’s was great. Luckily
the ice on the track melted enough so that we could finish up with a half hour
skate around the track before packing up and heading home.
