SAC Matt Bailey Training Diary 2 August 2011

The day started with the usual nice 7 o’clock wake up with Luke my personal alarm clock doing the business. We went for our morning mobility run but mixed it up today with a mini abs circuit when we got back to the house (need to keep the 6 pack looking good!). After breakfast we headed out for our first training session, the (now) notorious Siegsdorf loop. It was already very hot and only just after 9am so it was going to be a hard session. However, we had clear blue skies, which makes all the difference LoL!!!

The main aim today was to practise our skate two technique and Coach pushed us hard as we got to the first hill making us focus on the skate two technique all the way up. It was very hard work in the morning heat but by the halfway point, I was starting to feel my technique improving so was tired but pleased. For me personally, it was a good way to start the day and I’m starting to feel that, for this technique anyway, I’m starting to get the hang of it.

Steve was on lunch duty today; tortellini for a change J , yum, yum!! (we all love it really) For the afternoon session we were at the range to learn how to re-create the same firing position for every shot in order to be more consistent and accurate with our shooting. After a check zero, we started by firing a single round, then standing up out of position, to then adopt the firing position again with Coach critiquing our positions every time. Hard work mentally and physically as well when Coach decided to liven things up by getting us to run laps to get our heart rate and breathing up before adopting the firing position and taking the shot. All of this is to get us to focus on what we have to do during a race. At the end of the session, Coach seemed happy with our efforts, however, he did say that there was still a long way to go in our shooting but we are definitely getting better.
