SAC Luke Tyler - Race Diary 24 January 2012

Carl working hard on one of the 24 climbs!
Mat on his 2nd 5km loop
10k relay race today it was individual morning mobility at 8:30 we left for the stadium at 10:30. Immediately on arrival we were attacked by youth skiers with snowballs but we put them in there place with a counter attack. The team for today’s relay was Danny on the 1st classic leg Carl on the 2nd Mat took the 1st skate leg and coach was the last man with the 2nd skate. I got cheeky day off from skiing but I help out with putting spear poles out and taking action shots of the team as they scaled the hills. Danny managed to keep up with the pack up the front I heard him coming up the hill before I saw him he put in a lot of effort to keep up and handed over in 8th position. Carl took over for the 2nd leg and worked hard to maintain a good position slipping back only 1 place. Mat's technique saw him get up the hills fast and he paced the race really well to loose on one more place. Coach was last man and the strongest skier on the team he was over taken by a GBR skier from another team but managed to eventually catch and overtake another team ahead and after a sprint finish just stayed ahead by 0.4 of a second which kept the team 6th place (in the SAS cup points, we were 10th over all). It was a good effort but the team and we are now looking forward to an easy training day tomorrow in preperation for the first biathlon race on Thursday, no much rest!!
