Today was the second full day of training for The Team. We
arrived very late on Saturday night after a monumental drive from Calais
meaning we had to do the shopping on Monday morning (Sunday is full day closing
in Germany). Monday afternoon saw The Team acquainting and reacquainting
themselves with the Biathlon arena in Ruhpolding and the roller ski tracks. We
had our first tumble of the summer training with myself inspecting the gravel
at the bottom of a hill. Tuesday was more roller skiing in the morning at a
different location. More hills this time to allow us to practice hill
techniques. In the afternoon we spent time on The Range at The Arena, with the
more experienced members practicing firing drills and with Grant (Wilson) and I
getting to grips with and personalising the rifle. The temperature has been
peaking at an impressive 36 degrees in the afternoon encouraging electric
storms to come rolling down the valley during the evening and at night. Today
we walked up the Rauschberg, Nordic style. This is a mountain in the foothills
of the Alps standing at 1675M ASL. The afternoon was spent zeroing and learning
the routine for range days. Tomorrow should be a reasonably intense day as well
so be sure to log in for the next instalment of the RAF Regt Team news.
