Today we all went on our first mountain bike ride of this
season. We went a total distance of 43k in a time of about two and a half
hours. Being the first ride it was mostly gentle hills with a couple of steeper
sections. The uphill parts were challenging and required a good drive to be
able to keep going and reach the top. Once at the top the view proved to be
worth the climb but as we didn’t stop for too long we didn’t manage to get many
photos.
There was a long downhill section towards the end of the
ride which I found really exciting and wished there was more of! Towards the
end of the ride we did a couple of hill sprints when we just had to get up the
hills as fast as possible.
Once we finished the hill sprints it should have been a
simple ride back to the apartment but matt (Bailey) got a flat tyre on the last
descent. I initially stayed back to help and then tried to re-join the team but
they had not seen Matt stop. Matt and I then dropped his bike into the shop to
have his tyre repaired and we walked back to the
apartment. By the time we got back we arrived about 40 minutes after the rest
of the team. Overall an extremely good bike ride and a nice start to what I am
to believe will only get more challenging.
