SAC Mathew Bailey - Training Diary - 28 June 2012

Carl & Coach Classicing without using poles

Bottom of the Hochfellen Mountain road
We had another morning down the range today doing some running combi shoots. After the normal morning routine we headed down the range for 09.00 ready for a fun shooting session :D. We set up the range as normal and cracked on with zeroing. Today we were working on prone and standing working on our breathing and shooting in our own time. We started with some one shot drills to warm up and then moved onto full mag shoots in both prone and stand coach wanted us to get in our head a normal shooting pattern that we would do naturally and worked for us. We did some small runs in between the shoots to give our eyes a rest and stretch our legs out. At the end of the session we had a little competition shooting on metal in prone then stand and for every shot we missed we had to run around a small penalty loop coach had made out of cones.  After we had finished our shooting for the day we all headed off back to the flat for some lunch and a rest before the afternoon session. At 14.45 we all jumped in the wagon for the short drive to the start of the hochfellen Mountain road to begin our classicing session. Today Carl & I where going to work together while coach gave grant some more one to one coaching to improve his technique. We started off with one rep (roughly 15 mins) up the hill without poles to warm up then coach wanted Carl & I to do normal classicing technique up the hill but on the flatter sections we were to use only our arms. We found this good training and was hard on the triceps and lats. For the last two reps of the hill coach came up with us giving us pointers on our technique helping us to improve. It was a good afternoon and we could all see grant improving which was great as he will be in the relay teams during the winter races.
