SAC Carl Pointer - Training Diary - 23 July 2012

Mat lead morning mobility this morning, stealing a rather unique 15min ab work out from a'Mens Health' magezine.
Track day! My favourite! I finally get to test out my new 'Vibram Five Fingers  Bikilas' (Get googling!). Excited!
Grant doing some core work during morning mobility
Warming up with a jog to Ruhpolding's 400m athletics track, we endured 4 x 800m with a 200m walk in between each effort, all in order to eventually achieve our forecasted 3k best effort times. Kevin Kane from the GB Biathlon team also joined us for the mornings antics...
The times to achieve 800m were as follows : -

Carlos Pointer = 2min 28 secs
Grant Wilson = 2min 40 secs
Carl Carrier(Coach) = 2mins 44 secs
Mathew Bailey = 2mins 46 secs

All of the 800m lap times were accomplished. Eventhough, we sprinted the last 200m of the last 800m split we still managed to come seconds under the target. A clear sign we are naturally going at the right pace intended.

The aim is to improve our 3k times by 10 % : -

3k Time (Before)
3k Target Time ( 10% faster)
Carl
10mins 17secs
9mins 15secs
Grant
11mins
9mins 54secs
Coach
11mins 22secs
10mins 14secs
Mat
11mins 34secs
10mins 25secs

In the afternoon we tried something a little different because unfortunately we were unable to do some live firing. Dry- shooting (firing without actual rounds) is still very important, as it allows us to focus on every other aspect of the marksmanship principles. Concentrating on getting into the desired firing position with simple skating combi drills. Starting off with single 1 shot drills we followed on to do 5 shot series in both prone and stand.
We finished our second sunny session by completing 4 x 1k combi loops, amongst the beautiful bavarian mountains. Shabba!
