SAC Steve Boyes - Training Diary 15 August 2011

This week's training has been influenced by the German Bank Holiday today. The locals needed the break because they'd spent the weekend in Lederhosen absorbing large quantities of beer. A huge beer tent had been put up in the centre of Ruhpolding complete with long tables so the locals could drink lots without falling over! The atmosphere was great with a traditional Bavarian band playing all through the night, although the songs weren't much to our taste.

However, as far as Coach was concerned, Bank Holiday or not, we had some work to do on our shiny bikes. The bike route was one we hadn't done before with only one mountain (!!!!!!!) but it took us an hour to reach it first with some cheeky climbs to get us ready for what was to come. We couldn't see the top because the cloud had come down which didn't look good for later.

The climb started on a road, which I prefer to the gravel tracks but as we got higher, the road gave way to the gravel :-(

As we entered the clouds, we got some cooling drizzle which helped on the final steep stage. We topped out at 1280 metres and had a short break for some food and to get our waterproofs on for the downhill. Short break became a long one as Luke couldn't get himself dressed (into his waterproof). We eventually got back on the track and went flying down the hill. Good job too because it had started to hammer down with rain. By the time we got back to the Traunhaus, we were drowned rats!!!!!!!
