SAC Carl Pointer - Training Diary 12 October 2011

Morning mobility followed by all the rest of the good stuff and onto this mornings classicing session. The Siegsdorf loop was not the same with only 5 team members! (without Steve) It took Luke, coach and I well under 2hrs to classic 2 full circuits of the familiar course. Danny had problems with his knee and Matt was just hanging out from the strength training the previous day. ( Not that I blame him!)
Now for the most exciting part of Biathlon! Shooting! Shooting! And more lovely Shooting! This afternoon we started off by zeroing, then onto more thrilling shoots where we had to skate 1km around the Cheimgua Biathlon Stadium and approx 500m before the range pretend we were in an actual race and speed up. Controlling our breathing, while checking wind-flags and which lane to fire on, we had to shoot 5 rounds (1 mag) onto metal targets ( My favorite! :D )in the Prone position, followed by 1 mag onto paper, in the standing position. Today's work really paid off! Everybody was knocking the targets down, even though we were given spare rounds ( just like in relay races) we did not need to use all of them. And of course we all took notes so that we can remind ourselves of what works the best, whether it be same leg position, cheek position, breathing pattern etc...
