SAC Steve Boyes - Training Diary 03 October 2011

Me nearing the top of the climb
After morning mobility we had urine tests to see if were hydrated after the weekend, coach likes to do this to catch us out, especially because we went to Oktoberfest again and had a few German beers. Mat was dehydrated (as usual) but I was over hydrated because I had drank a litre of water shortly before taking the test as I forgot to do the test when I first got up, the rest of the guys except Luke were hydrated.

This morning we had a hard classicing session at Hochberg a new training place for us, it was about a 600 meter steady climb but a real hang-out, and we had 6 reps to do. I was knackered by the end of the first rep, I only completed five because I’m just getting over a cold so I was told to sit the last one out.

In the afternoon we headed to the ranges were we had a shooting and plyometrics session, after zeroing we practised shading (shading is where you slightly adjust your sight picture to take into account the effect of the wind on the round as it flies), the wind was perfect for learning to shade effectively today as it was a blustery day which is probably when I would use shading in a race. We then did the plyometrics circuit four times and shooting onto metal targets after each circuit.

Tomorrow we have a 2 hour bike ride which I am looking forward to.
