SAC Mat Bailey - Training Diary 05 December 2011

We woke up to a nice wet morning in Obertiliach. We went out on morning mobility as normal, Danny was still ill so he wasn’t training again today and Luke’s ankle was still sore so he was going down to the doctors later. We did the morning core session as normal and cracked on with breakfast and getting ready for training. We were only doing a half days training today so we started a little later than normal. At 9.45am Carl, coach, boss and me jumped into the wagon and headed off down to the track for a skating session. We got there and coach told us what the plan was to have an hour skating at a steady pace on a few loops of the track. The snow conditions today were the worst it has been recently, the snow was very slushy and not very fast down the hills. But we managed and got in a good skate. After an hour’s skating, coach got us all together on the flat bit of the track next to the range and he set out some markers. We were doing a sprint session between our poles at first they were around 30 meters apart and we did no poles sprinting between the two. We then moved on to skate one then skate two around markers placed in a figure of eight and timed each one we did, it was good fun with lots of people falling over. In the photos from top to bottom was me, Carl, coach and the boss. After we had finished this we did a big loop of the track to cool down with an occasional little sprint. It was a good mornings training even though the snow conditions were not the best. We then went back to the hotel for lunch and the afternoon off. When we got back Luke had been down to the doctors and had an x-ray on his ankle the doctor said he had partially torn a tendon in his ankle so he would be out for the rest of the week to rest it. Hopefully he gets better soon and can get back to training.
