SAC Mathew Bailey - Training Diary 04 December 2011

06.40 up and out for morning mobility and core session, the bakery was not open this morning so we couldn’t get the bread for lunchtime (I know you would be curious!). I was taking the morning core session today so I cracked on with that after the jog then we went into the usual morning routine of breakfast and prepping kit for training. Luke was not training still because his ankle is still hurting and Danny had a sore throat so the two of them were not training today which left just Carl and I training today as well as the boss and coach. At 8.45 we went down to the wax room to get a lesson off coach on how to apply a wax called klister, we were putting this on because the weather had got warmer and rained meaning the snow properties had changed which required using a different wax on our classic skis to help us stick better. Coach took us through the lesson and we all applied the wax to our ski for the morning classic. When we got down to the track we kitted up and headed out onto the snow. We were doing a steady classic session so Carl, coach and I all set off on two loops of the whole track before stopping to hydrate. It was abit harder in the hills because of the snow conditions so we had to work harder to get a good stick. We did this a few times then headed back to the hotel for lunch and a chill before shooting and skating in the afternoon. During lunch we watched the biathlon World cup pursuit race on TV picking up a few tips and seeing how the professionals do it. At 15.00 we headed back down to the range to shoot and ski for the afternoon the snow had not got any better so it was sticky and slow in places but still skiable. We did some one shot drills and full mag shoots with different loops of the track in-between. It was a good session but 2 hours of shooting is hard on the eye's so by the end of it my eyes were getting a bit blurry but it is all good training. Overall a good day’s training in trying snow conditions.
