SAC Mat Bailey - Training Diary 13 December 2011

Danny Classic Skiing

We woke up to an extra layer of snow this morning!  It had snowed a little bit overnight but every little helps and means we have better snow to ski on.  We did morning mobility and the core session as normal and were all in the wagon heading down to the track for a mornings classic session.
When we got there it was busy, they were preparing for the IBU Cup aces over the next couple of days laying out the course markings.  All the top IBU Cup athletes were all training on the track as well so it was a little more hectic then normal but all the same we cracked on with a classic session.  Coach told us we were doing 4 x 25 minutes of constant skiing with 5 minute breaks in between.  For the loops we mixed it up doing different variations of the track with the big hills and the flat bits.  It was a hard session and I was tired as we jumped back in the wagon and headed back for lunch.  We all had a sleep at lunch ready for a strength session in the afternoon.  At we headed back down the track lucky the track was less busy, so we had more room on the track to do our strength session.  We started with a half hour warm up then cracked straight into the strength training we did 6 loops of the top hill broken down by 3 loops double pole, then 3 loops with no poles.
I found it hard going on the triceps and lats, but it is all good training and will help us be better come the race days!
