Mat, Carl & Coach finishing with some sprints |
The day started with an easy session physically wise as
today was the day of our shooting tests. We arrived just before 0900 to set up
and do some dry shooting drills to get warmed up before zeroing. Once zeroed we
had around 20 minutes to do anything we felt we needed to do be that more dry
shooting, a short sleep or simply just lying down and relax. 20 minutes later
we started our first test. Shooting on paper we had to take ten shots in the
prone position onto each of the upper bravo and Charlie targets. Once completed
the we then repeated the same shoot but this time in the stand position and
onto upper Delta and Echo. We then went onto the second test which we had to
fire onto the metal targets. First of all we shot in the prone position
performing one shot drills, once ten shots had been fired in prone we then proceeded
to fire a further ten shots from the standing position incurring a 10 second penalty
for any misses. The last test was full magazine shoots once again ten from
prone and to finish ten from standing with 5 second penalty this time (only the
metal shoots were against the clock, so it's a balance of how fast you can
shoot against how many targets you can hit?). The second session of the day saw
us back down the range but this time skating round the track. The coach mainly
worked with Mat and Carl who were focusing on skate three looking to reach forward
to gain the full potential from the polling action. I trained on my own working
on the same thing but on a shorter loop trying to improve not only my skate 3
but also skate 1 and 2 throughout the loop.
