Grant Wilson - Training Diary - 11/12 Oct 2012

On a windy and rainy Thursday morning we started training off with a hour level one run on a new route we hadn’t ran before. We ran along the road side into Elgin a town around 6 miles from the base. Being a level one run we kept our heart rate to 60-69% of our max. There was no happy medium with weather that day because as we were coming back the sun shone through and we went from cold to roasting,  Defiantly preferred the cold. For our afternoon session we headed through to Hunlty for what we assumed would be another beasting. Not this time although it was challenging, the session we took part in was extremely good and was a great benefit for Carl & I. We were performing sprints up the dry ski slope. That’s right up the hill! After each sprint we recovered with an easy figure eight loop set out before going onto another sprint. We then moved onto classic roller ski’s and performed multiple races involving double poling and even without poles. On Friday morning the weather once again was perfect for our level 1 hour and a half beach run. The sky was grey, wind was blowing and rain was pouring. Running along the beach towards the lighthouse was not too bad. The wind was behind us which did help us along pushing us slightly. However on the way back the wind was not only blowing against us now but smashing the rain against us as well. Just an amazing feeling let me tell you! For our final session of the day we performed a body weight pyramid circuit which included shoulders, chest and triceps. Because we have been doing them over some weeks now we have increased the reps and sets of each exercise we performed which meant a hard work out just before our day off on Saturday, Perfect.
